Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture / Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM or CM) includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and a unique kind of massage therapy, known as tuina.

Chinese medicine is a comprehensive system of holistic medicine that has been developing for over 2000 years in China. We can use CM in conjunction with Western bio-medicine or with other natural therapies or by itself. Its three core modalities can be part of the management of any health condition. The practice of Chinese medicine is now a government-regulated profession in Australia.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Stimulating your body’s own self-healing mechanisms with fine needles to restore your inner balance and promote health.

At Southpoint Health Clinic, this also includes Japanese Meridian Therapy – very fine needles, very gentle – as well as the more familiar Chinese acupuncture.

Individual herbs are combined in formulas to address your specific health picture. We use granulated extracts that are easy to prepare and drink (just stir into hot water). Herbs are imported with TGA approval and no endangered species are used in this clinic.

Cupping with vacuum cups has become popular with many modalities recently.

It has been used in Chinese medicine for over 1000 years to loosen muscles, disperse congestion and help stimulate blood flow. Cupping, liniments, fragrant oils and herbal plasters are used with tuina or acupuncture.

Using localised heat to stimulate acupuncture points for specific purposes.

Combines acupressure with deep tissue massage, joint mobilisation, trigger point release, meridian stretching, qi gong and much more to enhance the effects of acupuncture. Tuina can also be calming and relaxing and de-stressing – just like acupuncture.

Chinese Medicine can potentially be of use in almost any kind of health problem. It may be the primary modality of your choice, or it may complement mainstream or other treatment modalities.
